R.R.O. 1990, REGULATION 16

GENERAL

1. In this Regulation,

"Northern Ontario" means the districts of Algoma, Cochrane, Kenora, Manitoulin, Nipissing, Parry Sound, Rainy River, Sudbury, Timiskaming and Thunder Bay and The District Municipality of Muskoka. R.R.O. 1990, Reg. 16, s. 1.

2. In order to receive a grant from the Minister, an agricultural society must, in the year for which the grant is paid,

(a) have at least sixty members;

(b) work to advance its objects;

(d) hold an agricultural exhibition. R.R.O. 1990, Reg. 16, s. 2.

3. (1) A grant paid to an agricultural society for agricultural and food exhibitions, demonstrations and competitions shall be equal to one-third of the costs incurred by the society for prizes, judges' fees, stipends to exhibitors and exhibit materials. O. Reg. 945/93, s. 1.

(1.1) In this Regulation,

"agricultural and food exhibitions, demonstrations and competitions" include homecrafting and local talent competitions, exhibitions and demonstrations. O. Reg. 945/93, s. 1.

(2) Where the agricultural exhibition is held in Northern Ontario, the grant shall be equal to two-thirds of the costs set out in subsection (1). R.R.O. 1990, Reg. 16, s. 3 (2).

(3) The proportion of the grant paid for costs incurred by the agricultural society for the exhibition and demonstration of farm improvement competitions and local amateur talent may not exceed one-third of the total grant. R.R.O. 1990, Reg. 16, s. 3 (3).

(4) A grant paid in accordance with this section may not exceed $3,000 in a one-year period. R.R.O. 1990, Reg. 16, s. 3 (4).

(5) In a year where wet weather causes a decrease in the revenue an agricultural society receives from admission tickets, a grant to the society may be increased by the difference between the admission ticket revenue for that year and 90 per cent of the average admission ticket revenue for the three preceding years of normal weather. (6) The increase described in subsection (5) may not exceed $1,000. R.R.O. 1990, Reg. 16, s. 3 (6).

4. (1) A grant paid to an agricultural society for improvements and repairs to the society's land and buildings that will advance or be used to advance the objects of the society shall be equal to 25 per cent of the costs incurred by it for the improvements and repairs in a one-year period. (2) A grant paid in accordance with this section shall not exceed $2,000 in a one-year period. O. Reg. 945/93, s. 2.

6. A centennial grant of $1,500 may be paid to an agricultural society in a year during which the society is observing its 100th anniversary where the society,

(a) has existed for 100 years; and

(b) has constructed a permanent commemorative structure for the anniversary. R.R.O. 1990, Reg. 16, s. 6.

7. If the money appropriated by the Legislature for grants given under this Regulation is insufficient to pay the grants, the grants shall be paid to the societies entitled to receive them in amounts prorated according to the proportion of each grant to the total within each type of grant. 8. In order to receive a grant from the Minister, a horticultural society shall, in the year for which the grant is paid,

(a) have at least twenty-five members where the society is located in a territorial district or fifty members where the society is located elsewhere in Ontario;

(b) work to advance its objects; and

9. (1) A grant paid to a horticultural society shall be equal to a maximum of 50 per cent of costs incurred by the society in advancing the objects of the society. R.R.O. 1990, Reg. 16, s. 9 (1).

(2) A grant shall not exceed,

(a) $1,000, where a horticultural society had less than 200 members in the previous year; and

(b) $1,500, where a horticultural society had 200 or more members in the previous year. R.R.O. 1990, Reg. 16, s. 9 (2).
