The present Law lays down provisions relating to the protection, fostering and hunting of wild living animals in the Land of Hessen. Article 1 establishes that game is an essential part of the local environment and as such it has to be conserved as part of the natural general environment. The purpose of the present Law is to: 1) conserve the great variety of wild animals in respect of its natural living basis; 2) to promote and protect the living space of wild animals; 4) harmonize matters pertaining to hunting in particular with those of nature protection, animal protection, care of landscape, as well as with those concerning recreation and tourism; 5) regulate the exercise and organization of hunting. The text consists of 46 articles divided into 10 Parts as follows: Principles of hunting, hunting right (I); Hunting districts (II); Hunting lease (III); Hunting lease (IV); Practice of hunting (V); Hunting protection (VI); Damage cause by hunting and game (VII); Structure and proceedings of hunting service (VIII); Penalties (IX); Transitional and final provisions (X).
