This Act aims at the conservation and management of the natural environment by protecting the environment from artificial damage, conserving the ecosystem and natural scenery, etc. The Act defines the basic principles of conservation of the natural environment and the Minister of Environment shall establish a basic policy for the conservation of the Natural Environment to implement these principles. The Act empowers the Minister of Environment to designate ecological and scenery conservation areas. Acts prohibited in ecological and scenery conservation areas are specified in the text. The Government shall formulate measures for the conservation of biological diversity, properly manage biological resources and implement provisions of the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora and the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance, Especially as Waterfowl Habitat, etc. The Act further provides for: installation of facilities for the conservation and use of the natural environment; designation and management of ecological and scenery conservation areas; conservation of biological diversity; installation and operation of facilities for the conservation and use of the natural environment; promotion of ecological tourism; levies imposed by the Minister of Environment for Cooperation Charges on the Conservation of Ecosystem; penal provisions; etc.
