This Law establishes legal, economic and social basis for institution and operation of consumer societies and associations thereof with a view of provision of its members with consumer commodities, purchase of agricultural commodities, including products of subsidiary small-holding, non-timber forest products and medicinal herbs for subsequent processing, processing of foodstuffs and protection of consumers. Consumer society shall be voluntary association of citizens and (or) legal persons for trading, procurement, production and other activities (Art. 1). Constitutors of consumer cooperative shall be at least five natural person (of the age of 16 and over) and (or) three legal persons (Art. 7). Consumer cooperative society must adopt Statute (Art. 9).
