This National Veterinary Development Plan (2016-2020) has been formulated in order to improve veterinary services, safeguard aquaculture production safety, and ensure the quality and safety of animal products, public health and ecological safety. Concerning enabling more inclusive and efficient livestock and food systems, the main targets of the Plan include: 1. the development of veterinary undertakings is more effective. Infrastructure and institutions team more perfect, laws and regulations, and standard system more perfect, the veterinary public finance investment mechanism is more stable, more in-depth exchanges and cooperation in international veterinary field, science and technology support ability and veterinary social service level increased significantly. 2. the ability to prevent and control animal diseases has markedly increased. 16 domestic animal diseases that have priority in prevention and control have reached the assessment standards put forward in the national long-term animal disease control program (2012 - 2020), and significantly reduced animal and public health risks. 3. the healthy development of the veterinary drug industry and the livestock slaughter industry. Veterinary drug industry competitiveness further improved, veterinary drug product quality sampling qualified rate will be more than 95% and improved situation of pig slaughterhouses.
