This Australia’s Intended Nationally Determined Contribution to a New Climate Change Agreement is a multi-sectoral policy document at national level for the period of 2015-2030. The INDC outlines a target: Under a Paris Agreement applicable to all, Australia will implement an economy-wide target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 26 to 28 per cent below 2005 levels by 2030. Australia’s target is unconditional based on assumptions set out in the attachment of the INDC. It is an economy-wide emissions reduction by 2030, to be developed into an emissions budget covering the period 2021-2030. The following sectors are covered: Energy; Industrial processes and product use; Agriculture; Land-use, land-use change and forestry; Waste. Additional goals includes: a target for renewable energy to generate at least 23% of Australia's electricity by 2020, and an energy efficiency target of 40% improvement between 2015 and 2030, etc. In addition, the INDC indicates that the Australian Government is working to build climate resilience and support adaptation to climate change. A National Climate Resilience and Adaptation Strategy will be developed.
