This Decree provides for the approval of the guidelines for the drafting of a forest management Plan, in compliance with European, National and Regional legislation, in order to manage and protect the Sicilian forest heritage and the forest and agro-forestry territory, and to pursue the objectives of environmental protection and sustainable development of the agro-forestry-pastoral economy of Sicily. According to the Decree, the drafting of the Plan is based on: basic cognitive elements of land and silvicultural use; qualitative and quantitative cognitive elements, deriving from the collection, processing and analysis of data related to forestry; definition of criteria, objectives and management elements, in relation to the multifunctional role of the woods and of the agro-forestry-pastoral areas. The Decree establishes that the Plan deals with: cultivation and settlement of the woods; wood recovery and cutting; use and cultivation of non-wooded land and non-woody productions; interventions for wildlife protection and conservation; use of buildings; regulation of any civic use; use of woody and non-woody forest products; planning and management of pastoral activities; planning of forest fire prevention interventions; prescriptions for touristic, recreational and naturalistic fruition of forest areas; planning and management of forest roads and paths dedicated to the public use. The Decree describes the elements necessary to the drafting of the Plan: description of forest status, conditions and species; geographical, administrative and cadastral framework; climate and bio-climatic framework; conditions of trees and vegetation; housing and rural infrastructure; cadastral plan and land use map. The Decree concerns the definition of different stages of work for elaborating the Plan; details the activities related to the implementation of the Plan and the methodological setting; provides for the elaboration of a simplified forest management Plan, reserved for coniferous and broad-leaved woods, coppiced regimes (chestnut, poplar, eucalyptus) of public and private ownership with limited surface.
