ECOWAS Renewable Energy Policy (EREP).

This Policy on renewable energy aims at ensuring increased use of renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, small-scale hydro and bioenergy for grid electricity supply and for the provision of access to energy services in rural areas. The ECOWAS region has set a clear target to increase the share of renewable energy in the region’s overall electricity mix to 10% in 2020 and 19% in 2030. The Policy also aims to assist the ECOWAS Member States to develop appropriate regulatory frameworks for the promotion of renewable energy technologies and services, thus reinforcing regional integration in the renewable energy sector. The gender-balanced policy aims also at promoting job creation and business development throughout the value chain of renewable energy technologies. The text contains the Supplementary Act on the ECOWAS Renewable Energy Policy attached with the Regional Renewable Energy Policy and corresponding Action Plan for implementation.
