This recommendation is adapted to prohibit directed fishing of basking shark in the Northeast Atlantic from 2024 to 2027 due to insufficient information on stock status and the species' vulnerability to overexploitation. Incidental catches of basking shark must be promptly released unharmed, and contracting parties are required to submit all available data on basking shark to ICES.
