The SADC food and nutrition strategy aims to significantly reduce food and nutrition insecurity in the Region by 2025.The policy was drafted in 2014, with objectives set for the time span of 2020 to 2025. The policy is built upon four main objectives: (i) To promote availability of food through improved production, productivity and competitiveness; (ii) to improve access to adequate and appropriate food in terms of quality and quantity;(iii) To improve the utilisation of nutritious, healthy, diverse and safe food for consumption under adequate biological and social environment with proper health care; (iv) To ensure stable and sustainable availability, access and utilisation of food. The policy is structured into seven chapters. The second chapter provides a situational analysis, addressing food security, health and nutrition status, malnutrition, and micronutrient deficiencies. It also focuses on infant and child feeding, and women and youth empowerment. The third chapter outlines the strategy to achieve the four strategic objectives. The fourth chapter presents implementation mechanisms. The fifth chapter details resource requirements, while the sixth chapter focuses on monitoring and evaluation mechanisms. The seventh chapter presents the food and nutrition security results framework.
