Water and Sustainable Development - Border Water Resources and Transboundary Water Resources in Brazil, 2013.

This publication is the result of collaborative work between the Secretariat for Strategic Affairs of the Presidency of the Republic (SAE/PR) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with the support of the Secretariat for Water Resources and the Urban Environment of the Ministry of the Environment (SRHU/MMA) and the National Water Agency (ANA), under Technical Cooperation Agreement 09/2010. Border and Transboundary Water Resources in Brazil aims to make available to Brazilian society and neighboring countries a set of information dealing with the subject in Brazil, not limited to surface waters. This issue is perfectly in line with the work of the Secretariat for Strategic Affairs of the Presidency of the Republic. After all, SAE's actions include preparing subsidies for government initiatives, as well as articulating policies for long-term sustainable development. This study is also related to the National Water Resources Plan, especially the Strategic Studies on Water Resources Programme, and Subprogramme I.3, Practical implementation of international commitments in transboundary water bodies and development of management and decision support instruments shared with neighboring countries. Also in the process of revising the National Water Resources Plan, in 2010, the aforementioned subprogramme was included as one of the Priority Action items for the period 2012-2015.
