This Southern African Development Community (SADC) Tourism Programme 2020-2030 is formulated to serve as an overall roadmap for guiding and coordinating the development of a sustainable tourism industry in the region and to facilitate the removal of barriers to tourism development and growth. The vision is for cross-border travel in SADC to exceed global tourism growth levels by 2030. The mission is to advocate for, facilitate, and coordinate tourism policies and practices in the region. The programme is designed to foster regional integration and poverty reduction through tourism. It emphasizes the importance of stakeholder participation, capacity building, and gender mainstreaming. The programme identifies five core strategic goals: stimulating visitor movement, improving tourism reputation, developing tourism in Transfrontier Conservation Areas (TFCAs), enhancing visitor experiences, and maximizing partnerships. Specific strategies and activities are proposed under each goal, such as harmonizing visas, brand and reputation management, sustainable/responsible tourism, tourism investment, and developing regional tourism marketing.
