This Strategy was developed under the coordination of MAPA, with the participation of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa), the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), the Executive Committee of the Cocoa Farming Plan (Ceplac), the Ministry of Agrarian Development (MDA), and the Ministry of Integration (MI). The review and strengthening of the ABC Plan Adaptation Programme – Low Carbon Agriculture (BRASIL, 2012), to take place in 2016/2017, with broad participation from the public and private sectors, producers, researchers, and civil society representatives, will reflect the content of this sectoral strategy. The scope of an adaptation programme for the agricultural sector is to create a safe environment for decision-making by rural producers and public policy managers, addressing climate uncertainty with efficient access to information, technologies, and production processes for the establishment of sustainable production systems. This document aims to analyze the vulnerabilities of agriculture to climate change; support the agricultural sector in implementing actions to promote the resilience of agroecosystems; develop technology transfer; and provide subsidies for the revision of the Low Carbon Agriculture Plan, in particular its adaptation program, and for the actions to be implemented by 2020.
