The National Water and Basic Sanitation Agency, ANA's new planning cycle has institutional strengthening as its main guideline. To this end, there is the challenge of revisiting the actions carried out in the last cycle and advancing the results delivered to society in light of the Agency's expanded list of competencies with a view to achieving its vision for the future. The 2023-2026 Strategic Plan was developed using the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) model. This was adopted to ensure that the components of the strategy (objectives, indicators, targets, and initiatives) remain aligned and linked. The BSC is a flexible tool that enables continuous monitoring of strategic planning, allowing senior management to translate strategic objectives into a coherent set of performance indicators, align sectoral targets with the strategy, and conduct periodic and systematic strategic reviews. ANA's new strategy is the result of the work and consolidated vision of the Ministry's technicians and managers, represented in the new Strategic Map. Its mission is to ensure water security for Brazil's sustainable development and contribute to universal access to basic sanitation. An organization's mission is its purpose, its reason for being. The definitive criterion for success for a public sector organization is its performance in fulfilling its mission. A public sector organization fulfills its mission by meeting the needs of its stakeholders (interested parties and institutional actors).
