Resolution by ICCAT Establishing a Pilot Project to Test the Use of Stereoscopic Cameras During First Transfer and the Automation of Video Footage Analysis (22-15 BFT).

This ICCAT Resolution establishes a one-year Pilot Project (with possible extension) to test the use of stereoscopic cameras during the first transfer of bluefin tuna from purse seine vessels or traps to towing cages, alongside the automation of video footage analysis using software and artificial intelligence. The project aims to improve monitoring and control of underwater transfer and caging operations, enhance accuracy in estimating fish numbers and weight, and reduce the workload and costs for authorities. Participation is encouraged for Contracting Parties with relevant fishing vessels, with a Technical Steering Group overseeing implementation and progress. Companies with requisite technology will be selected to conduct field tests according to specified technical standards, and detailed reports on camera tests and automated video analysis will be prepared and shared with ICCAT members to evaluate the project's effectiveness and accuracy. The text has one Appendix on Minimum technical standards for the implementation of the Pilot Project.
