Resolution by ICCAT on the Implementation of Biodiversity Conservation Instruments (23-23 MISC).

In this resolution, the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT) outlines a plan for its members to actively engage with new biodiversity conservation instruments. Members are directed to coordinate with other organizations, particularly other Regional Fisheries Management Organizations (RFMOs), to ensure that the new instruments are implemented in a way that aligns with ICCAT-managed fisheries. The Secretariat and the Standing Committee on Research and Statistics (SCRS) are tasked with exploring how the SCRS can provide expertise and advice on this implementation, and investigate practical examples of marine biodiversity conservation that are compatible with sustainable fisheries. Finally, all members, the SCRS, and the Secretariat are required to report regularly to the Commission on their progress, with the Commission planning to discuss its role in this process at its 2024 Annual Meeting.
