Recommendation by ICCAT on an ICCAT Bluefin Tuna Catch Documentation Program (07-10 SDP).

The Recommendation by ICCAT on an ICCAT Bluefin Tuna Catch Documentation Program (BCD) establishes a scheme to track bluefin tuna from capture to final market to support conservation and management measures and combat illegal, unregulated, and unreported (IUU) fishing. All Contracting Parties, Cooperating non-Contracting Parties, Entities, and Fishing Entities (CPCs) must implement this scheme and require a validated BCD for bluefin tuna that is landed, delivered to or harvested from farms, or involved in domestic trade, import, export, or re-export. The BCD must be validated by an authorized official of the flag State of the vessel, the State of trap or farm establishment, or the chartering CPC, confirming the information is accurate and the catch is within quotas. For re-exports, a validated Bluefin Tuna Re-export Certificate (BFTRC), supported by the original validated BCD(s), is required. CPCs must communicate copies of validated BCDs/BFTRCs to the ICCAT Secretariat and the competent authorities of the country of trade or transfer, and they are required to verify consignments and cooperate to resolve any doubts regarding the documentation.
