Tasmania’s Climate Change Action Plan 2023–25 sets out the government’s strategy to maintain net zero greenhouse gas emissions from 2030 and strengthen resilience to climate impacts. The Plan is structured around three priority areas: Information and Knowledge, Transition and Innovation, and Adaptation and Resilience. It aims to provide accurate climate data, embed climate considerations in government decision-making, and educate communities, including youth. Transition measures focus on reducing emissions through electrification, renewable energy expansion, low-carbon agriculture, waste reduction, and forestry initiatives. Adaptation strategies include statewide risk assessments, sector-based resilience Plans, and programs to strengthen local government capacity, disaster preparedness, and biodiversity protection. The Plan also commits to guiding principles such as transparency, science-based approaches, integrated decision-making, and community engagement. Targets include net zero emissions by 2030, doubling renewable electricity generation by 2040, achieving 100% electric government fleet vehicles by 2030, and reducing food and organic waste significantly.
