This Nitrogen Action Programme, linking economic development with the long-term realisation of the conservation objectives of nitrogen-sensitive habitat types and animal species for the Natura 2000 area, focuses on: preventing deterioration of the ecosystems and, where necessary, achieving their long-term restoration, in order to achieve a favourable conservation status for these habitat types and species at the national level. Therefore, the Programme includes source-oriented measures, including environmental impact assessment, that lead to a reduction in nitrogen deposition and restoration measures, even allowing new economic activities that generate nitrogen emissions to be permitted in and around Natura 2000 areas.
