National Ordinance banning animal testing.

This National Ordinance prohibits to use or designate any animal for use in any experimental or other scientific use that causes or may cause pain, suffering, fear, or permanent injury to that animal. The prohibition does not apply to non-experimental agricultural or clinical-veterinary use. The Ordinance defines: animal, as any living vertebrate animal, including free-living or reproductive larval forms thereof, with the exception of other embryonic forms; the breeding or keeping of an animal for sale, as well as making it available for or using it in an experimental or other scientific use that may cause pain, suffering, fear, or permanent injury to that animal, including any intervention that results, or is expected to result, in the birth of an animal under such circumstances. The Ordinance specifies authorised persons to supervise and inspect, in order to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Ordinance. The Ordinance also provides for offences in case of contravention of its provisions.
