National Agriculture Policy.

This National Agricultural policy of 2018 replaces the policy of 2004 and responds to evolving dynamics in the agricultural sector and the current priorities. The vision of the Policy is: a nation that enjoys food security, nutritional health and sustainable agricultural growth from a productive, green and market-led agricultural sector. The mission is to ensure food and nutrition security, modern agribusiness technologies, professionalizing farmers in terms of production, commercialisation of the outputs and the creation of a competitive agriculture sector. The Policy objectives are: increased contribution to wealth creation; economic opportunities and prosperity; improved food security and nutrition; increased resilience and sustainability. The Policy actions are organised under four broad policy pillars: 1) enabling environment and responsive institutions; 2) technological upgrading and skills development; 3) productivity and sustainability; 4) inclusive markets and off-farm opportunities. Therefore, the Policy promotes the following actions: increasing public investments and private sector investment and finance for agriculture; increasing research capacity; promoting innovation and extension services; increasing animal resources productivity and sustainable land productivity; building resilience in farming communities; promoting off-farm opportunities for women and youth; increasing agricultural products for healthy diets and consumer markets; increasing agricultural production for export markets; development of post-harvest management techniques.
