The Health Act (GesG) of the Canton of Aargau establishes the legal framework for the protection, promotion, prevention and restoration of public health, as well as coordination among public and private health actors. It regulates the organisation and supervision of the cantonal health system, including licensing and professional requirements for health practitioners and institutions, patient rights and obligations, and the operation of healthcare services and pharmacies. The Act further provides for public health measures such as vaccination, addiction prevention, and tobacco and alcohol control, together with mechanisms for emergency service provision and innovative care models. It introduces a structured training obligation regime for healthcare providers, including financing and compliance mechanisms, and sets out enforcement, supervisory and sanctioning powers, as well as procedural rules.
