This Law establishes the State Policy on Animal-Assisted Interventions in the State of Sergipe, with the objective of promoting health, education, social assistance, inclusion, and human well-being through planned, supervised, and safe interactions with animals. The law defines the principal modalities of animal-assisted interventions, including animal-assisted therapy, activities, education, and visitation programmes. It aims to improve physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being, support therapeutic and rehabilitation processes, foster social inclusion for persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups, strengthen family and community ties, and encourage the humanisation of health, education, and social assistance services. The policy is guided by principles such as human dignity, social inclusion, One Health, disease prevention, and animal welfare. The law further establishes a regulatory framework for the implementation of animal-assisted interventions in healthcare, educational, rehabilitation, and social care settings. It sets requirements concerning participant consent, professional supervision, biosafety measures, and interdisciplinary collaboration, while imposing strict safeguards to ensure the health, welfare, and humane treatment of participating animals. The legislation also requires veterinary oversight, disease prevention measures, and restrictions on interventions in high-risk healthcare environments.
