The Strategic Plan for the Implementation of Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health and Healthy Ageing Programmes in Eritrea 2022–2026 establishes Eritrea’s five-year framework for improving health and wellbeing throughout the life course. It seeks to accelerate progress towards ending preventable deaths among women, newborns and children and improving outcomes for adolescents, young people and older persons. Based on a review of the preceding 2017–2021 strategy, it identifies persistent challenges including maternal and neonatal mortality, malnutrition, limited reproductive and adolescent health services, gaps in healthy-ageing data and programmes, workforce shortages, commodity interruptions and weaknesses in information, referral and quality-assurance systems. The Plan is structured around resilient health systems, universal maternal and newborn healthcare, comprehensive sexual, reproductive and adolescent health services, effective child-health interventions and a multisectoral response to healthy ageing. Priority measures include stronger governance and financing, health-worker training, improved infrastructure and referral systems, reliable medicines and equipment, community-based services, emergency obstetric and newborn care, family planning, reproductive-cancer screening, nutrition programmes and care for sick and small newborns. It also addresses infertility, obstetric fistula, gender-based violence, female genital mutilation, school health, early childhood development and integrated care for older people.
