Water Ordinance (451.111).

The Water Ordinance of the Canton of Schwyz establishes the institutional framework and responsibilities for implementing water protection, water rights, hydraulic engineering, flood protection, and water management legislation. It defines the powers of cantonal authorities, districts, municipalities, and specialized agencies in areas such as water quality monitoring, wastewater management, groundwater protection, hydropower use, dam safety, and river restoration. The Ordinance regulates procedures for permits, water use concessions, flood protection projects, renaturalization measures, and emergency actions in response to water-related hazards. It also sets rules for cooperation among authorities, the protection of groundwater and surface waters, and the maintenance and management of public water bodies. Furthermore, it provides the framework for financing and public contributions to wastewater, flood protection, and ecological restoration projects, and repeals previous water management implementing regulations.
