The Odisha Organic Farming Policy, 2018 establishes a framework for promoting organic farming as a sustainable and climate-resilient approach to agricultural development in the State of Odisha. The policy seeks to improve soil health, reduce dependence on chemical inputs, conserve biodiversity, strengthen indigenous seed systems, enhance access to credit and appropriate mechanization, and support post-harvest management, marketing, and exports of organic products. It adopts a differentiated strategy for various agricultural zones, including default organic areas, low- and moderate-input farming regions, export-oriented production areas, and high chemical-use zones targeted for transition. Key measures include promotion of soil fertility management, community-based seed production and conservation, integration of livestock and fisheries into organic farming systems, support for participatory and third-party certification schemes, establishment of residue testing laboratories, and development of branding and market infrastructure. The policy further provides incentives for conversion to organic agriculture, value addition, supply-chain development, and direct benefit support to producers. Implementation is coordinated through the Odisha Organic Mission, supported by state-level steering, monitoring, and project management structures.
