The Act establishes that the Republic of Austria is committed to the principle of sustainability in view of animal protection, comprehensive environment protection, granting of water and food supply and research. In particular, Article 5 establishes that the Republic of Austria is committed to secure food supply for the population with high-quality food of animal and plant origin, also from domestic production, as well as to sustainable exploitation of natural resources in Austria to ensure security of supply.

Article 2 of the above-mentioned Act establishes that under the name of “Agrarmarkt Austria” (AMA) a legal person with its Headquarters in Vienna is established. It shall, inter alia, be in charge of regulating food prices, promoting marketing of agricultural products. AMA set up a Food Security Consortium in 2010 which shall ensure availability of food from grain for all; staple food security for all in an age of climate change; food and feed safety for all; nutrition and health for all. The Food Security Consortium states explicitely the right to food (alle haben ein Anrecht auf Nahrungsmittel in ausreichender Menge, guter Qualität und gesunder Beschaffenheit, auch in Krisenzeiten).
