The present Regional Act establishes the framework relating to the exploitation of mines and quarries, taking into particular account the need to ensure the protection of the environment and landscape. Mining shall be prohibited on the areas specified by article 3, such as protected areas, nature reserves and sites of Community importance. Mining activities shall be carried out in compliance with the regional plan to be adopted pursuant to the criteria set out in article 4. Further provisions regard the issue of the authorization which is required to carry out mining activities. Penalties are established by article 22.
