This Act makes provision with respect to the importation and storage of gas, oil and gas production, offshore storage of carbon dioxide for the purpose of its permanent disposal, the payment of costs for the decommissioning of energy installations (i.e. nuclear, offshore renewables and oil and gas), clean-up of nuclear sites, petroleum and gas licences, the production of electricity from renewable sources and renewable energy in general. The principal objective of the Act is to update the legislative framework in this field so as to meet requirements of the present energy market. In the provisions relating to exploitation of areas outside the territorial sea for gas importation and storage, reference is made to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982.
