This Energy Ordinance implements the Cantonal Energy Act of the Canton of Schwyz and establishes the institutional framework, responsibilities and procedures for energy administration, energy planning and the enforcement of energy legislation by the competent cantonal authorities. The Ordinance promotes renewable energy by establishing requirements for renewable heat in buildings, on-site electricity generation in new constructions, and conditions for replacing fossil-based heating systems with renewable alternatives. It also provides rules on energy certification, energy consumption accounting, energy performance assessments and obligations applicable to major energy consumers. In addition, the Ordinance establishes financial support mechanisms, including grants for energy-efficient building renovations, renewable energy installations, energy advisory services and deep geothermal exploration projects.
