The Cabinet of Ministers, in order for Greece to comply with the obligations deriving from the ratification of the Kyoto Protocol and the corresponding EU legislation, approves the National Program for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions for the period 2000-2010. This Program coordinates the activities of both the public and private sector aiming at the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and including possible interventions of reduction of emissions, with measures to be taken in the following sectors: domestic and industrial activities, transports, generation of electricity, waste management and agriculture. The Programme shall be an inter-ministerial effort being coordinated by the Ministry of Energy and Climate change which shall be the competent authority for the implementation, monitoring and follow-up actions of the Programme. This Ministry shall also be in charge of writing the annual report of emission to be submitted to the European Community and the United Nations.
