This Law, consisting of 9 Chapters, divided into 56 articles, establishes the State Policy on Solid Waste within the State of Rio Grande do Sul. This Law provides for principles, objectives, guidelines and instruments of the above mentioned State Policy and establishes standards for the integrated and solid waste management, including hazardous, polluters and governmental responsibilities and related applicable economic instruments. It also amends Project Law No. 230/2013. The Policy integrates the State Policy Environment and Biodiversity Protection, established by Law No. 10,431 of 20 December 2006, and the State Basic Sanitation Policy, instituted by Law No. 11,172 of 1 December 2008. This Law applies to individuals or corporations, public or private, persons responsible, directly or indirectly, for the generation of solid waste and to develop actions related to integrated management or solid waste management. This Act does not apply to radioactive wastes, which are regulated by specific legislation.
