This Regional Legislative Decree, consisting of 15 articles divided into four Chapters and 1 Annex creates the Protected Area of 'Cabo Girão'. This Area includes the Marine Natural Park of Cabo Girão, created under the terms of Regional Legislative Decree no. 4/2017/M of 30 January and in its terrestrial part the Natural Monument and the Protected Natural Heritage of Cabo Girão, enshrining the respective legal regime. The basis for the classification of the Cabo Girão Marine Natural Park, arising from the implementation in the National Strategy for the Sea (RAM) and contained in Regional Legislative Decree No. 4/2017/M are as follows: a) Recognition of the importance of the marine environment for the sustainable and inclusive development of populations, particularly those geographically close to these areas; b) Recognition of the importance of the area for the ecosystem maintenance services, as well as for the different phases of the biological and/or ecological cycles of marine or coastal species and habitats; c) Importance for the preservation of the submerged and coastal geological heritage; d) Interest in scientific research and in the regulation of access to genetic resources and bio-research; e) Natural heritage or other interest which confers potentiality to the area for the development of activities in the marine and/or coastal environment relevant to the well-being of the population and economic activity, in particular those linked to tourism and/or activities in nature. In addition, it specifies the basis for the classification of the Cabo Girão as a Natural Monument through the need to protect its geological heritage and the integrity of its characteristics, adopting related measures. This Regional Legislative Decree is divided as follows: General provisions; Acts and activities prohibited or conditioned; Supervision and Sanctions; Final provisions. The Annex specifies geographical coordinates delimiting the protected area.
