This Decree, consisting of 6 articles, establishes the State Programme for the Development of Pecan Nuts culture (PRO-PECÃ), coordinated by the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation. It encourages and coordinates actions aimed at expanding the production of pecan nuts culture and processing through agro-industries within the State of Rio Grande do Sul. Livestock and Irrigation will publish the Norms and Guidelines of PRO-PECÃ. The objectives of PRO-PECÃ are: to coordinate and promote the development of a modern, sustainable and competitive Pecan Nuts culture; to contribute to the income generation of farmers and to the development of agroindustries; to increase the production of pecan nuts with the implantation of new orchards; to encourage research and technical assistance actions in order to provide information and new technologies; to support and disseminate the production of quality seedlings; to encourage the organization of the production chain and the promotion of the products of pecan nuts and its derivatives; to inform public and private institutions on the cultivation of nut trees and the benefits of consumption of pecan nuts and their derivatives; and to encourage the introduction of pecan nuts in agricultural education.
