Law No. 7.877 authorizing the Public Authority to create the State Programme for the Creation of Artificial Reefs, called "Costa Viva".

This Law, consisting of 10 articles divided into five Chapters, authorizes the Public Authority to create the State Programme for the Creation of Artificial Reefs, called "Costa Viva". This State Programme aims at performing the following activities: undertake actions to recover marine biodiversity; increase fish resources; encourage the practice of diving tourism, surfing and other aquatic and underwater sports; as well as protect the coastal areas degraded by changes in tides and currents, by stimulating the creation of artificial reefs. Artificial Reefs are considered as a set of interventions deliberately aimed at the remodeling of marine ecosystems, through the establishment of new habitats, in order to protect the life cycles of species of economic and ecological importance, by using materials that are environmentally friendly, properly prepared, and that serve the purpose of the Programme.
