These National Standards are formulated in accordance with the Pakistan Environmental Protection Act, 1997 (XXXIV of 1997) for noise control. In the Standards, there are four categories of area/zone: residential zone, commercial zone, industrial zone and silence zone. A silence zone shall be an area comprising not less than 100 meters around hospitals, educational institutions and courts, which is declared as such by the competent authority.
