A new Era for Research and Innovation is a policy at EU level. This policy lays down actions to accelerate Europe’s green and digital transformation, strengthen Europe’s resilience and preparedness to face future crises, and to support Europe’s competitive edge in the global race for knowledge. The four key strategic objectives of this policy are: (I) prioritising investments in R&I, (II) improving access to excellence, (III) translating R&I results into the economy and (IV) deepening policies that promote the free circulation of knowledge. Drawing on the lessons from the COVID-19 crisis, this policy underlines the importance of R&I cooperation to rapidly deliver solutions to the most demanding needs. Moreover, the policy puts emphasis on the role of R&I to achieve competitive sustainability, such as achieving climate neutrality, more sustainable farming practices, and job creation.
