Conservation Measure 51-04 (2022) General measure for exploratory fisheries for Euphausia superba in the Convention Area in the 2022/23 season.

This conservation measure pertains to exploratory fisheries for Antarctic krill (Euphausia superba) in the 2022/23 season, with specific provisions and exceptions. Fishing in a statistical subarea or division must cease once the reported catch reaches the defined limit, resulting in closure for the rest of the season. Additionally, no more than 75% of the catch limit can be taken within 60 nautical miles of known breeding colonies of land-based krill-dependent predators, and various reporting and observer requirements are established to ensure compliance. Furthermore, the use of marine mammal exclusion devices on trawls is mandatory. The text has 2 Annexes on Data Collection Plans for exploratory krill fisheries and Research Plans for exploratory krill fisheries.
