This Strategic Plan establishes the Office of Protected Resources’ commitment to recover and conserve marine and anadromous species protected under the US Legislation, focusing on the necessary actions and investments for fiscal years 2016 through 2020, and guiding internal decision-making, priority-setting, and discretionary resource allocation. This Strategic Plan provides national-level strategic goals for the protected species management programmes, as well as strategic goals specific to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Fisheries Headquarters Office of Protected Resource, in line with the Office’s core mission to ensure the productivity and sustainability of fisheries and fishing communities, and the conservation and protection of marine resources. Particularly, this Strategic Plan focuses on the following four goals, defining actions and measures for their implementation: 1) stabilising the most critically endangered species and improving populations of those species nearing recovery; 2) developing guidelines and tools to incorporate climate change related information into Agency decisions ; 3) increasing effectiveness in implementing Federal Legislation on endangered species and marine mammals protection; 4) involving all sectors of the societies in the recovering and conservation of protected species.
