Reindeer husbandry is the main traditional branch of economic activity of small indigenous peoples. It creates a sphere for the application of historically developed skills of small peoples, provides conditions for the preservation of their original culture and is the main and almost the only source of subsistence of small indigenous peoples. Reindeer husbandry has an ethnic-forming character for preserving the culture and traditional way of life of small indigenous peoples: more than 500 families lead a nomadic lifestyle, engaged in reindeer herding.
