This Act applies to the acquisition of agricultural property that occurs through purchase, exchange, or gift; contribution to a company or association; or distribution or division from a company or association. A permit under this Act is required for the acquisition of agricultural property if: 1) The acquisition concerns property in a sparsely populated area and Section 5 is not applicable; 2) The acquisition concerns property in a land consolidation area, or; 3) The acquirer is a legal entity acquiring the property from a natural person or an estate. Without a permit under this Act, property in sparsely populated areas that is not part of a land consolidation area may be acquired by someone who has been registered as a resident in a sparsely populated area within the municipality where the property is located for at least one year. The question of a permit is decided by the County Administrative Board, unless the government prescribes that the assessment should be made by the Swedish Board of Agriculture.
