Resolution GFCM/46/2023/10 on the restriction and prohibition of the use of driftnets in the Mediterranean Sea.

This Resolution seeks to take stock of driftnet fisheries within GFCM- and the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT)-managed fisheries in the Mediterranean. The GFCM and ICCAT should organize a joint workshop to assess the impact of driftnets in the Mediterranean, such as: on the environment, vulnerable species and on protected/managed species. This initiative aims to establish a unified approach to managing driftnet use and to define their technical specifications. The terms of reference of the joint workshop on driftnets are annexed to this Resolution.
