Recommendation GFCM/47/2024/12 on the implementation of conversion factors for geographical subareas 15 and 16 in the framework of the implementation of the multiannual management plan for the sustainable exploitation of demersal stocks in the Strait of Sicily.

In 2025, a contracting party or cooperating non-contracting party (CPC) may transfer fishing days from fleet segments of a greater size to fleet segments of a smaller size in geographical subareas 15 and 16. They must follow a conversion factor (1:1) and keep the transfer within 15% of their total fishing days. Any changes must be reported to the GFCM Secretariat within 15 days. In 2026, the Scientific Advisory Committee on Fisheries will review how this transfer mechanism worked, its impact on demersal stocks in the Strait of Sicily, and whether it should continue long-term.
