Resolution GFCM/47/2024/3 on principles for responsible investment in aquaculture.

This Resolution requires the adoption and promotion of the principles for responsible investment in aquaculture as a guiding framework for responsible investment in aquaculture across the Mediterranean and the Black Sea regions. The purpose is to attract responsible and impact-oriented investment in aquaculture by minimizing environmental, social and economic risks while promoting inclusivity, innovation and societal impact. This Resolution underscores the commitment to achieving sustainable aquaculture development and promoting responsible investment, conforming to the GFCM 2030 Strategy. The principles for responsible investment in aquaculture shall be aligned with the national policies and regulatory frameworks to ensure transparency, accountability and inclusivity, while considering the unique social, economic and cultural dynamics of each GFCM contracting party and cooperating non-contracting party. This Resolution underlines that all investment in aquaculture should support the attainment of the SDGs, particularly by: supporting sustainable food systems (SDG 2); protecting ecosystems (SDG 14) and reducing the environmental footprint of aquaculture (SDG 13); promoting economic growth and decent work (SDG 8); and enhancing gender equality (SDG 5) and reducing inequalities (SDG 10).
