The Conservation Measure 51-01 (2024) establishes precautionary catch limits for Antarctic krill (Euphausia superba) in Statistical Subareas 48.1, 48.2, 48.3, and 48.4. It sets a total catch limit of 5.61 million tonnes per fishing season, with a trigger level of 620,000 tonnes until the Commission allocates the catch among smaller management units based on Scientific Committee advice. The measure specifies that fishing can only use approved methods, requires mitigation to reduce seabird and marine mammal bycatch including mandatory exclusion devices on trawls, and applies existing conservation measures on data reporting and environmental protection. The fishing season runs from 1 December to 30 November, and the measure remains under review in line with scientific recommendations. Data requirements set out in Conservation Measure 23-06 and Conservation Measure 26-01 shall apply.
