Conservation Measure 51-04 (2024) regulates exploratory Antarctic krill (Euphausia superba) fisheries in the 2024/25 season, setting a default catch limit of 15,000 tonnes per statistical subarea or division and prohibiting more than 75% of catches within 60 nautical miles of breeding colonies of krill-dependent predators. Fishing stops once limits are reached, with positions recorded by trawl midpoints and full catch (including losses) reported. Vessels must carry at least one scientific observer, use marine mammal exclusion devices, and follow detailed Data Collection and Research Plans, choosing from predator monitoring, research surveys, acoustic transects, or research trawls, with research conducted before or after fishing to specified spatial coverage. Data must be submitted promptly to CCAMLR for scientific review, and participation plans or withdrawals must be reported in advance.
