This Bush Burning (Prohibition) Law [CAP. 23], enacted in Ebonyi State, prohibits the setting of fire to forests, grasslands, plantations, or any vegetation in open places. The Law defines key terms such as "bush," "fire," and "open place," and emphasizes the protection of forest resources and public safety. It criminalizes bush burning for hunting and any use of fire that endangers life, health, or property. Exceptions are made for farmers who burn their farmland for cultivation, provided they create fire-breaks to prevent the spread of fire. Violations of the Law—including aiding, abetting, or attempting bush burning—are punishable by a fine of ₦5,000 or one year of imprisonment.
