Recommendation by ICCAT (13-19 MISC) on the Establishment of a Scientific Capacity Building Fund for Developing States which are ICCAT Contracting Parties.

The recommendation provides that ICCAT will establish a Scientific Capacity Building Fund (SCBF) to support scientists from developing Contracting Parties in gaining knowledge and skills on ICCAT-related issues. It will provide funding for up to 14-day trainings in scientific institutes or research centers of other ICCAT members, based on a submitted training strategy. The fund will start with €80,000 from ICCAT’s Working Capital Fund, be replenished by voluntary contributions, and be administered by the ICCAT Secretariat under standard financial controls. The Executive Secretary will manage applications, give annual updates and reports on the fund’s status, and applicants are encouraged to seek other funding sources first.
