The Recommendaiton provides that Contracting and cooperating non-contracting parties, entities, or fishing entities (CPCs) with vessels actively fishing Mediterranean albacore tuna shall implement a 15-year rebuilding plan from 2022 to 2036 to achieve Biomass at Maximum Sustainable Yield (BMSY) level with at least 60% probability. A Total Allowable Catch (TAC) of 2,500 t is established for 2022–2024, with specific quotas allocated to each CPC and provisions for quota transfers. Vessel capacity is limited based on historical authorizations, with communication requirements to ICCAT, and strict regulations on sport and recreational fishing, including daily catch limits and prohibition of marketing. Seasonal closures are mandated, with CPCs required to monitor stock and submit detailed scientific data to the Standing Committee on Research and Statistics (SCRS). An updated stock assessment will be conducted in 2024 to evaluate the plan’s effectiveness, guide possible amendments to catch limits, closure periods, gear regulations, and minimum sizes. CPCs are encouraged to implement these measures promptly to ensure sustainable management of Mediterranean albacore.
