The National Health and Climate Strategy Implementation Plan (2024–2028) sets out Australia’s roadmap for creating a climate-resilient health system and achieving net zero emissions in health care. The Plan operationalizes 49 actions under four strategic objectives: building health system resilience, decarbonising health services, fostering international collaboration, and embedding health considerations across all government policies. The Plan emphasizes adaptation and mitigation measures to protect population health from climate-related risks while reducing the sector’s carbon footprint. It prioritizes actions for 2024 and outlines future activities through 2028, supported by governance structures including the Climate & Health Expert Advisory Group, the National Climate & Health Program Board, and the State and Territory Climate & Health Working Group. These bodies will ensure cross-portfolio and cross-jurisdictional coordination, with a strong commitment to co-design with First Nations communities. Key enablers include workforce development, research and innovation, stakeholder engagement, and robust governance.
